Scotty McCreery Shares Family’s Holiday Traditions
Young ountry crooner Scotty McCreery and his family don't mess around when it comes to Christmas traditions and decorations. The 18-year-old 'American Idol' winner dished on some of his favorite holiday rituals, his new album and comfort food in a recent holiday interview with People.
Titled 'Scotty McCreery's Family Feast,' the story ran with a photo that puts McCreery and his family in a Norman Rockwell-like setting, with McCreery himself presenting the perfectly braised Christmas turkey in their Garner, N.C. home. After winning 'Idol' this past May, the young star told People that this year was a "wild" year of touring with his mom, Judy, and being away from his sister Ashley, 21, and his dad, Mike.
Though the family has had to spend a significant chunk of the past year apart, they haven't lost any of their consistency and unity when it comes to the holidays. McCreery says when they built their house six years ago, the family even included a space on the second floor that they call their "Christmas closet," where they can store all of their decorations and necessities (they put up 12 Christmas trees each year, as well as hundreds of lights). Plus, McCreery's mom admits one of their favorite traditions, which fizzled out as McCreery and his sister grew older, was getting them matching pajamas for Christmas morning.
"It was so corny!" she says. "When they were little, they loved it. I'm traditional like that, and they're totally OK with it." His sister Ashley wasn't sure at the time of the interview what she was going to get her brother for Christmas, but McCreery said the fact that he was going to be home was the best gift of all.
