See the Cast of the ‘Miracle On 34th Street’ Remake Then And Now
'Miracle On 34th Street' was the first big screen remake of the 1947 Christmas classic of the same name.
The 1994 fantasy doesn't stray too much from the original's famous plot. However, instead of taking place at Macy's, the movie is set at a fictional department called Cole's because Macy's didn't want to participate in the movie this time around.
Since its release, the remake has become a holiday classic in its own right. See what the cast of 'Miracle on 34th Street' is up to these days below.
Richard Attenborough, Kris Kringle
Then: Attenborough brought kindly gravitas to the role of Kris Kringle, who children believe is the real Santa Claus. More acclaimed as a director than an actor, Lord Attenborough won Oscars for directing and producing ‘Gandhi’ in 1982. Besides 'Miracle on 34th Street,' his other big acting role during the '90s was as John Hammond in 'Jurassic Park.'
Now: The 89-year-old is president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, a drama school in London, England. The last movie he directed was the 2007 romance 'Closing the Ring.'
Mara Wilson, Susan Walker
Then: Mara Wilson played the precocious Susan, a six-year-old girl skeptical of Kris Kringle. A major child star at the time, Wilson had burst on the scene a year earlier as Natalie Hillard in 'Mrs. Doubtfire.' In 1996 she played the title role in the movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'Matilda.'
Now: Wilson’s last role was a small part in 2000’s ‘Thomas and The Magic Railroad.’ The NYU graduate has said she didn't enjoy film acting, and is now a writer for sites like Huffington Post and Yahoo. (She also recently discussed the making of 'Matilda' in an episode of the Web series 'Nostalgia Chick.') You can like her Facebook page and follow her on Twitter.
Elizabeth Perkins, Dorey Walker
Then: '80s movie regular Perkins played Susan's mother Dorey Walker. That same year she starred as Wilma in 'The Flintstones.' Perkins made her movie debut alongside Demi Moore and Rob Lowe in 'About Last Night' and played opposite Tom Hanks in 'Big.'
Now: Perkins' is best known these days as Celia Hodes on ’Weeds.’ Starting next year she will star with Sarah Chalke and Brad Garrett in the ABC sitcom 'How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest of Your Life).'
Dylan McDermott, Bryan Bedford
Then: You may remember Dylan McDermott as Bryan Bedford, Dorey's boyfriend and neighbor in 'Miracle on 34th Street.' Previously he had been in movies such as 'Twister' and ‘In the Line of Fire.'
Now: The 51-year-old played Ben Harmon on the first season of 'American Horror Story.' He is most famous for his long run as Bobby Donnell on 'The Practice.'
James Remar, Jack Duff
Then: Remer channeled his knack for playing slimeballs as Jack Duff in 'Miracle on 34th Street.' He also had memorable turns during the '80s as Ajax in 'The Warriors' and Albert Ganz in '48 Hours.'
Now: The 58-year-old plays ghost dad Harry Morgan on 'Dexter.' Remar has a supporting role in the Quentin Tarantino movie 'Django Unchained.'
Jane Leeves, Alberta Leonard
Then: When Jane Leeves played Alberta Leonard in 'Miracle on 34th Street,' the English-born actress was also playing her signature role of Daphne on 'Frasier.'
Now: These days Leeves stars on the TV Land sitcom 'Hot In Cleveland.' The 51-year-old is married and has two children.
Allison Janney, Christmas shopper
Then: You may have noticed Janney in a small role as a brazen Christmas shopper. She had mostly been a TV actor, and she got her big break in 1999 when she was cast as Press Secretary C.J. Cregg on 'The West Wing,' a role for which she won four Emmys.
Now: Recent Janney movies include 'A Thousand Words' and 'The Help.' She will appear in the upcoming comedy 'Struck By Lightning.'
Jack McGee, Tony Falacchi The Drunk Santa
Then: Jack McGee played drunk Santa Tony Falacchi in 'Miracle on 34th Street.' Previously he had popped up in movies like 'Basic Instinct' and TV shows like 'The Wonder Years.'
Now: McGee's recent well-known roles include George Ward in 'The Fighter' and Chief Jerry Reilly on 'Rescue Me.' In 2012, he was part of the cast of the recently cancelled legal drama 'Common Law.'
